Had to say some hard things today…

A new post again–yeah!

I had to say some tough things to someone today that I really like and think of as a great person. It is always tough to confront things in someone’s life, but it also is a beautiful process when done the right way.  I think that it has been so long since I really was involved in a discipling relationship that I forgot how effective they are in growing people.  Something unique happens when a trusted friend helps us process through what God is doing in our life and keeps us accountable to surrender ourselves to Him?

How many of us actually have friends that are willing to speak truth in love to us?  How many friends do we have that are intentionally seeking out opportunities to help us grow spiritually?  Proverbs 27:6 says, “Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.”  Think about that.

Finally, a new post…

Sorry for such a long time without a post.  I would be worried, but I don’t think a ton of people check this thing anymore anyway.

I found a blog post from a fellow College Minister that really hit home with me–let me know what you think.  I think it actually applies for both youth and college.

Here ya go:

Middle School Small Groups…

I have to keep reminding myself it is the small victories that really matter in Middle School Ministry.  I am thinking of those times in small groups discussions that everyone is off topic, unfocused, and sharing pointless stories–then, BOOM, it hits.  Real life comes out in the midst of it and a student shares something they have been going through but haven’t had the courage to speak it yet.  Or, perhaps, they say something about God that finally clicked with them.  Either way, those are the building blocks of the foundation they need at this stage in life.  Those are the kind of spiritual victories that give you energy for the next week.

Beach Blast Leaders’ Application…

High school juniors, I hope you are ready to lead an awesome week of Middle School Beach Blast. I want this to be the best week ever, so I am looking for strong leaders to step up and help me out. Just fill out the application below and return it to me ASAP (the deadline is March 30th).

Funny Website…

So, I HAVE to post something new. I have gone for way too long without posting!

What better way to start up posting again than with a little humor. Follow this link for some fun (even though it is in Spanish, I think you will get the point):

Retreat Follow-up…

This one is for the parents (those of you who know about the blog so far; by the way, please help get the word out for me).

Now that I have recovered from the lack of sleep I received on the retreat and for the cold I developed over this past weekend, I thought it would be good to recap for you a little bit about what we talked about on our Winter Retreat. I would love to have you help me follow up from the weekend by asking your student a few important questions about what they learned (if you are brave enough to hear the answer).

But first, let me recap a little bit about what we learned. The theme for the weekend was “The Search for the Real Jesus”. I chose the topic because many of our kids are really struggling with questions about their faith as their friends challenge them in school about who Jesus really was. How we answer the question “Who is Jesus?” affects eternity and so it is a really important question to ask. Here are three ideas we really hit hard:

1. Jesus is not just an ordinary man, he is God in human flesh.

2. Jesus is our King, which means he belongs on the throne of our life.

3. Jesus is our Savior. The only way to come into relationship with God is to trust Him with our life.

That is a little taste of what we covered this weekend. If you get a chance to have a conversation with your teenager about the weekend, could you ask them:

1. What is something they were able to learn about Jesus?

2. How can something you learned change your thoughts about Jesus or your everyday life?

Who knows, they may surprise you with their answer…
